For Prospective Students
We are always interested in recruiting students with an interest in molecular evolution and the comparative genomics of protozoa. We use a variety of approaches, both molecular and computational to study genome evolution and the origin of novel functionalities. Familiarity with UNIX and programming are not required, both can be easily learned if your research should require them. The graduate program in the Department of Genetics provides a fantastic opportunity for training in evolutionary biology through interaction with diverse faculty and students on campus , and also facilitates close interaction with students and faculty working in molecular genetics in our department. Students in our program are guaranteed at least five years of full funding for the duration of their Ph.D. We are also closely affiliated with the Center for Tropical and Emerging Global Diseases located here at the University of Georgia. Please visit this web site to view research areas and possible funding sources. Athens, Georgia is an excellent place to live. It is a small college town with a vibrant downtown nightlife, excellent restaurants, nearby mountains and rivers, and a very reasonable cost of living. You can see what the New York Times had to say about Athens here . Also, check out our local alternative weekly, The Flagpole. If you are interested in applying to our graduate program, please send me an email , and include a paragraph or two about why you are interested in the lab and how training at UGA fits into your overall plans. Official application forms are available at our graduate website . If you have any questions about the graduate program in general, you can contact the graduate coordinator (Daniel Promislow) at gradapp@uga.edu. |
